i’m looking for some dirt help!! i recently used MiracleGro (typically my ol reliable) but this time used the organic version. Most of the plants that I repotted with this soil stopped draining and started developing the ring of death or had yellow leaves. I’m wondering what people use for their tropical plants (I mostly have monsteras and pothos). I’m open to any dirt and mix in suggestions :)

Miracle grow is like a kiss of death, usually it’s infested with fungus gnats too. Find yourself an aroid mix and get a couple pound bag of super coarse perlite on Amazon, maybe some coco coir bark too and mix it all up in a tote. Awesome soil for Philo and Pothos.

Agreed. Please avoid using miracle grow. Their stuff isn’t well-draining, if you live in a hot or humid climate in the summer it can quickly lead to root rot, and my local nurseries refuse to sell it and literally have repotting counters to rescue customers’ plants from being repotted in miracle grow

I’d recommend Espoma’s Organic soil mixes. They cost as much or less than Miracle Grow, they come in a lot of different pre-made mixes for a variety of types of plants; and they’re what my local nurseries sell and swear by. They’re also a smaller business based in NJ I think so I like supporting them more than Miracle Grow, especially since it’s much better quality for the same price or less money. They’re also tend to sell FoxFarm, and a lot of folks here recommend that as a base soil, but I like recommending Espoma because of the price, the quality, and the convenience of the pre-made mixes for beginners on a budget. Hope this helps.

I use Fox farm ocean forest, plus fir bark and a little perlite for my philodendrons, monsteras and alocasia's. They all seem to be thriving
