For me winter is easier than summer. I’ve lost so many plants in my greenhouse due to the sun before I got sun cloths to cover. About 70 plants!! I have almost 400 plants. Winter I lost zero!!

I’m in Montana and share the same worry. I made it through my first winter with a few plants. My collection has exploded since. 3 plant priorities this winter. 1. Light. Grow lights. Get them some sweet sweet fake sunshine. I use them all year long. Highly recommend for NYC apartments. 2. Reduce watering. Use your senses. All of them if need be. Just be aware, they need more time in between watering. Drainage also helps. 3. Beware windows and drafts, especially with delicate and tropical plants. Keep those babies happy. I keep my house around 70-74 in the winter. I lived in NYC from 2019-2023. Depending on your heating situation, just try your best. lol. Something new I’m trying this winter -heating pad- for some of my tropical babies. Specifically my prized Alocassia. But not necessary. No anxiety, just give them some love! Wishing all the luck! 😎

Is it okay for me to put the heat on? I live in apt? How do I protect my plants from the cold drafts?

Not usually a big issue, I move my plants away from the windows. Don’t want contact with the glass on crazy cold days. Put the heat on girl! Shouldn’t be an issue too. The only issue might be humidity due to the dry heat/season. Humidifier works well. Crispy edges usually indicate lack of moisture in the air. This is all depending on how much you want to protect your plant babies. Cold drafts from open windows, don’t let them freeze lol. You could just leave them alone all winter or take a few plays from my hot-girl-plant playbook to really secure your plants and create perfect conditions! Growth might slow depending on your setup, but they will take off again in the spring for sure! 🥳
