Alright folks - is this a root growing 8 inches up my ficus elastica burgundy? I put keiki paste on the growth point next to it many months ago in hope of a branch (my doggo broke a leaf off there and it looks really bare). That obviously didn’t happen but now this thing is poking out. She’s also grown like 6 new leaves at the top since then. I’ve been debating chopping and propping her - maybe this is the sign to do it? What do you think?

I’d put a growing medium there and wrap so the roots could develop more before chopping and propping.

That’s a great idea! I’ve never tried this before so what a fun experiment! Thanks for the suggestion 😊

Thanks again for the suggestion. I’m doing some research to make sure I do this successfully but ran into a couple questions if you’ve got a moment 😊 Should I try to remove the bark around where the root is? That seems to be the common air layering method but I’m concerned about damaging the root. Can I put more than one air layer “pod” on the same stem? This root is only about a third up the plant. I have concerns of the new bit being too too heavy when cut. 🤔 Finally, I’ll have to give one of the 2 plants away eventually. Do you have opinions on whether it’s better to keep a top or butt cutting of a plant?

Yes I agree with tall plant dude cover with plant material mist and then wrap in Saran Wrap to grow it - like air layering? I’m doing it with my dieffenbachia plant.
