My first Hoya. Any tips for this new Hoya planty I picked up at Home Depot? I’ve sprayed it down with insecticidal soap, it was bone dry so i saturated it. I plan to repot it in Molly’s mix once it’s acclimated. All suggestions and tips are appreciated! 💚

Don't listen to people that tell you to treat it like a succulent. I have all of mine potted in a mix of orchid bark, perlite, tree fern fiber and a bit of peat. They need good light. Under grow lights, I'm watering every 5-7 days. Planta schedule is WAY off for Hoya. I set a custom schedule for every 5 days, then snooze once on any that aren't quite ready.

I second the good light suggestion. Mine are all pretty close to grow lights. They also don’t mind a bit of heat and humidity. Mine grow fastest with good light, high humidity, and about 80*F. I also find they love a good chunky mix. I just let it dry out completely between watering.

The plant looks very healthy. No dry edges or tips. Hoyas can stand bone dry soil. They hate overly wet soil. Do not follow a strict watering schedule. Water when the plant needs water. Overwatering will quickly kill a hoya. Fertilize regularly. They like east or west facing light or a good grow light. The light will bring out whiter tints and pink colors.

I grow mine in a chunky soil mixed with cactus soil they do good if you let them dry out a bit before watering. And do wonderfully outside under a covered patio or at least all mine do. Have fun.

I checked the Molly potting mixes. Only the aroid mix looked close enough to be a hoya mix. You are paying a higher price for the premixed convenience. Sometimes it’s worth it especially if you only have a few plants and don’t want to store a lot of potting mix ingredients. I recommend mixing your own if you have 10 to 20 hoyas. There are many formulas. You can try googling a hoya mix. Try on a few small hoyas and cuttings to get a feel for a mix that works for you. The pic shows a mix I made for hoya rooted cuttings. The bits are smaller than I use with my lager plants. 🍀🪴

Thank you! I only have one but I can mix something up for this Hoya. Like you said, I buy it for convenience and not having storage space for all the components. Thanks again for the advice!!!! 💚
