Hello, I made the mistake of planting four o'clocks in an uncontrolled area of my yard. I've been fighting them every year since, trying to get rid of them. They are very aggressive. I pull the tiny seedlings as soon as they come up, never let them go to seed, and I've discovered they have a very large root system. How do I get rid of them? I'm thinking about slicing the largest roots in several places and coating each cut with Roundup. Has anyone tried that, or are there more effective ways to kill them? Thanks in advance!

Since they have tuberous roots, they can spread entirely by root without the need for seeds. You need to dig the root and get it out as intact as possible. It can be two feet deep. Dig up as much of it as you can. Keep an eye on it and make sure it's never allowed to seed. Expect to dig it again, getting smaller bits each time until it's finally out. Ailanthus trees have the same root type and I've been fighting them for years. Digging is the only thing that puts a dent in it

Do not use roundup ‼️ It is toxic and carci ogenic for us and the environment 😬 a better thing could be to pour boiling water where they grow or use concentrated vinegar maybe.
