Hi there, I am based in London and just can’t seem to get this honeysuckle to survive. I make sure it is well watered with good and adequate plant food, but the leaves turn yellow and eventually die. I had this same issue last year and I just can’t seem to find out what’s wrong with it! Would be grateful if anyone had ideas. Thank you

It looks overwatered. There may be mildew fungus on the leaves. Check for root rot. Remove damaged roots. Ensure it has adequate drainage to avoid root rot. Add perlite, sharp sand or similar aggregates to break up the soil and increase drainage. Let the soil dry more between watering. Use a wooden skewer to verify the soil is dry before watering. Also, that’s a lot of unused soil in the pot. Excess potting soil holds excess water, especially if it rains. The vine can’t use up all the moisture in the soil. I recommend adding more plants to use the water in the soil. That’s a very big planter for just one plant. 🍀🪴

I would add sand or rocks to the soil and make sure it dries out between waterings. I always accidentally have honeysuckle in my yard, but it’s a different variety than the one you tagged. Maybe this will help?

Is it outside? I have one planted in the ground (in the northern US) and it just grew. Never watered it allowed the rain to do it

Yep, outside. It’s in a bit of a sun trap in London, but otherwise it’s so urban the growing conditions aren’t really right for it…! Lessons learnt nonetheless

Mine is on the back of my house in a fairly shady area. Rain maybe once or twice a week. Funny how these things are considered invasive yet they give us a hard time getting started 🤣

They are very invasive along roadsides and fences along with trumpet vines in the US. I have both of them with jasmine growing in pots. I rarely tend to them. I haven’t repotted them in 5 years. They live off rain water and thrive in both record heat and cold. They are the type that act up when you fuss over them.
