Hey y’all! I need help trying to identify this plant. Late last year my string of hearts was occupied by a mouse when I put it outside in the summer. Since then, it has been struggling to recover. So I did my best to help the plant recover, but did not change the soil. So this spring, I noticed that a plant was growing out of the pot. I thought that it was the string of hearts, but later found out by a fellow planter community member that it was a weed that needed to be plucked out. I did that, but decided to repotted into its own pot and see how it will grow, considering the fact that it stayed in stagnation throughout the winter months. I did a Google search on it, and it says that it is a bean plant; however, when I look up beans being grown from seed, the leaves do not look the same. The first photos shows the germination of the unidentified plant. The only thing that comes to mind is that the mouse must’ve been ingested a really small seed that passed through it and was deposited into my plant or it gathered it into its mouth and buried it into the soil of my string of hearts. I was wondering if anyone can identify this plant based on this photo. Thank you all in advance!

Looks to be a cutleaf groundcherry but that is just a guess. Might have better luck with identification if you can provide a more aerial shot of the foliage instead of a side shot. If that is what it is, it is considered a weed…and can attract pests because it does produce fruit. But can also be a “sacrificial plant”. Pests will often time eat its fruit and leave other less accessible fruits alone. It’s a nightshade plant related to a tomatillo so it’s berries are toxic while still green.

Thank you for replying. Here’s the how it looks from above. Turn out to be the GoldenBerry. We had this last year but died due to frost. I guess the little guy ate one of the berries and “deposited” it in my string of hearts. Crazy…

are you in the south? i see these everywhere, it's a climbing hempweed of some kind. if it's a hempvine, it's native but it's growth pattern is considered "aggressive", and it's known to die back or at least slow down during colder months. it's also completely edible

Ok…with that view I think it’s a cape gooseberry. Berries are toxic until ripe but they are edible when ripe. Keep it in a pot to keep it from becoming invasive if you want to go ahead and have it produce fruit.
