Help me pick my next plants (6-8). I live in the subarctic and most of the plants here are what you would find at the grocery store or they are very expensive. I’m having a friend bring plants from my favourite nursery when she comes and visits and I need help picking. It’s very dry here so anything that needs humidity has to stay in a greenhouse. Being able to propagate is important to me as I want to share these varieties. Something uncommon or interesting is also essential. What are your top picks to add to my budding collection?

I'd pick Echeveria, pothos, philodendron, string of pearls, and jade. Echeverias, jade, pothos and philodendron are super easy to propagate. String of pearls looks very cool imo. Pothos and philodendron might appreciate some humidity but I just use a pebble tray with water for mine

Thank you for your suggestions. There’s actually two varieties of string of pearls available. With how great my string of turtles is doing I figure that would be an easy compliment. I have a pebble tray in my greenhouse but I’m going to need a bigger greenhouse. In the winter the humidity can drop to 5% and right now it’s still only 25% and that’s summer,

have you considered berries? specifically berries native to alaska. salmonberry and cloudberry are incredibly unique, the fruit are bright orange, and they're adapted to cold dry climates. i don't know if your friend could bring them to you but just some food-for-thought

I don’t have space to grow larger plants like that plus there is a farm here who specializes in that.

i see. in that case, snake plants, ZZ plants, spider plants, and castiron plants are all low-light tolerant and cold hardy

I’m gaga over my string of pearls. I have 3 with 2 being variegated and honestly they are my easiest plants!
