What’s your ideal moss pole set up? Do you DIY or buy one pre-made (where cuz nursery’s are $$$). How do to attach the plant and ‘train’ it to grow into it? Do you still provide nutrients in the water that you feed into the plant? How often do you need to replace the moss/make sure no fungus is growing? Anything else I need to know about moss poles? Thanks!

I for one do not know a great deal about them but, I do know that you should not use the poles called “moss pole” from stores. These are actually “support” poles. But the ones that open and close around the moss (plastic or wire) is what you are looking for along with sphagnum moss and what ever you may mix it with that your roots will grow into and attach to it. Keeping it moist not soaked. There are items out there to help with keeping it moist if you forget also. I am getting ready to do this with a Swiss cheese plant and my Peru. So I have been reading up on them. Hope that helps. Good luck.

This is the set I just got because it came with the bottle to self water - now I just need to get the correct moss and I’ll be set! 🤞

Moss free pole is my ideal set up 😅 I use metal trellises for all my climbers because I'm way too lazy to keep a moss pole alive lol

I started making my own from a kit I bought on Amazon. It included the wire, zip ties, and gloves. The moss had to buy separately. Easy to make. Kind of messy. But I found it fun to do. Tried the coco coir poles. Had them in a couple plants for almost a year and they were useless. Still trying to finesse the watering part though. Was just misting them every few days. Now I’m trying the bulb watering things. I also am trying some expandable trellises from Treleaf. They claim they do not need to be moistened. Haven’t had long enough to make a judgement call. But they are so simple and look great. All you do is stick them into the pot. Adding a moss pole involves repotting. Plus you will need a larger pot to account the pole. So far my neon pothos is doing well with the pole. It appears to be attaching to the moss. I just attach the plant to the pole or trellis with Velcro tape which was included in both.

Those look great! You are such a wealth of information. Could you tell me about the lights you are using?

Well thank you. I have a lot of these lights. Those are 10 watt Sansi clip on lights. I like them a lot.

My monstera has been free standing, on moss, and now is on cedar planks! When I did my moss pole, I had made my own, I actually didn’t keep it moist all the time and it still did phenomenal! I switched to cedar now since it’s gotten so big. I have it in a long pot with two plants on either side of the cedar.
