Hi, new to plant care but have always loved plants and flowers. Just a question on bottom watering. Is there a rule of thumb for how long you sit them in water for? Or is it different for different plants? Many thanks

Up to 20 minutes should be sufficient!

Diff plants need diff watering. You should have a plan based on each plants needs. Some like to dry out, some will die if you let them dry out. There is no silver bullet for watering, etc.

I usually check mine with a wooden skewer to see how much they’ve absorbed and pick them up to see how heavy they are. Absorption for succulents I usually do 50%, tropicals about 75%. Which as laney said, takes about 10-20 mins depending on the pot size & soil type. I also only bottom water during the cooler/less light months to help maintain pests, mold, etc. In a few more weeks I’ll switch back to top watering (for everything but my “Strings of” plants) and then they’ll all get 100% soaked :)
