SOS!! ๐Ÿ˜… Looking for some advice on propagating an alocasia; I believe I have a regal shields. This is what I managed to salvage from the original plant - the two in pots were once propagated in water and transferred into soil ~2 weeks ago? The one with the new leaf pushed out two days ago, but it lost a leaf :( The ones on the napkin have been in water (attempting to propagate) but Iโ€™m seeing little progress. The large one was the main plant (it lost a huge leaf and became that). Please give any advice on how to keep these guys alive!! I am praying I can save it.

the first picture - I chopped the leaf with shears because it was pretty much yellow; I figured that would direct more energy to the new leaf

Im not well versed on Alocasia propagation, but anything that has a node should regrow unless its mushy. As long as you let them callous and grow some roots in water, it should be okay. I have learned just to neglect my propagating plants until I see they need more water. Let the roots grow and replant. Also, if you are using just a leaf (w/ out a node) it can grow new roots but the original leaf will die.

Iโ€™d propagate with water and perlite so the roots are stronger when you go to repot. Be patient they can take weeks and even months.

Definitely agree with the above tips. If the move from water to soil is going so poorly, you might want to consider moving them back to maybe a semi-hydro situation with water + perlite (or pon/leca/lava rock/whatever). For the props Iโ€™d add that they loooove humidity and a little warmth, so if theyโ€™re not in some type of special setup already consider putting their setup inside a plastic baggie or cloche

Thank you! I used to have them covered with a plastic cup that I cut holes inside. It seemed to help humidity so Iโ€™ll have to try that again
