Hey guys. New to planting and starting out small. Just potted a Pothos not that long ago but today I just received my small batch of mix succulents and aloes. They’re very tiny bc I wanna start out small. Any tips on how long to wait til their first watering or how long to keep them in their nursery pots? Any advice is welcome to have my plants grow and last.

When I was just getting started with cacti and succulents I would water on a date, it was the 21st of every month for me. Some are slow growing and I actually still have them in the pots from the grower some years later. Don’t be in a rush to repot, watch their growth.

If your plants arrived with roots hard as rocks, repot immediately. If they arrived totally soaked, repot immediately. You chose some great easy plants. If they look good and soil condition is good, then you can wait a few weeks. But I would not keep them in those tiny pots. Water when the soil is totally dry, bone dry. Unless you see signs of dehydration. When you water them, drench them until water runs out the bottom drain. As they grow, they may not need watering on the same day. It will vary. I suggest terracotta for newbies. I still use terracotta for a lot of my succulents. And drain hole is needed. I use these small pots for a lot of my props. They may work for you. 2 inches wide by 1.75 inches tall. From Amazon.

For comparison here are some of mine. First is a haworthiopsis, similar to yours. Second is retusas and last are zebras. These are probably a couple years old.

Ooh yea I have very similar ones right now. They’re very tiny like an inch tall and the soils bone dry rn but I’m scared to repot since the last one I had I did and it got root rot and unfortunately didn’t make it. I also have a 3d printer that I want to use to make custom pots with drain holes too but I just need to know the right time to repot.

Repot now if soil is rock hard or very wet. If rock hard, you’ll need to soak it.

It’s bone dry but not hard. It’s super loose like dust but maybe that might be bc they were mailed to me. Here’s 1 to show for reference. Should I repot out of nursery pots or wait?

Do you have guidelines from the shipper? They need to be eventually repotted. They are ok for a couple weeks.

No guidelines or history, got them from Amazon. So repotting can wait, what about watering should I water right away or also wait on that as they seem healthy now just really dry loose soil?

I'm not the best at succulents so far, but avoid getting water where their leaves meet. They can trap water and rot if that happens

Yea my big mistake on my first succulent was I had the soil up against the bottom of the leaves so when I watered it, it developed root rot. What can help prevent that? Should I buy like pebbles to put on top of the soil or can the size of the pot affect the soil and plant touching?
