Question for all planty people! šŸ’šā˜˜ļøLet’s share our success and failures. How many plants have you all killed, saved, and kept thriving at this point of your plant career? I’ll go first. I’ve killed 5 plants, I’m attempting to save 2 plants, and so far 7 plants are thriving for me!

I’ve only been seriously into houseplants a couple of months. I haven’t tried to save any from the store yet. I have full out killed 2. One was a string of pearls, the other was a fishbone prayer plant my son got me over a year ago in water and I transitioned it to soil two months ago and now I am finally ready to move it to the graveyard in Planta :(. I have a flying squid I am desperately trying to save. It is down to like a 1cm brown green nub poking out of the soil. Oh, I also killed off most of a butterwort, but it seems like it is putting out new growth points šŸ¤ž. My peacock plant has been a big struggle, but I think I finally have it figured out, and I almost lost my polka dot begonia, but it put out two good leaves and now has like 4 or 5 other shoots so I am super happy about that one :)

My begonia. Super proud of this baby that I saved it. Oh yeah, I have some unknown plant in the lower left corner of that pic that I haven’t put in Planta so I keep forgetting it. It’s still alive though šŸ˜‰

Oh pretty! She looks happy for sure, yeah I’ve full out killed two aloe plants, one I had for three years but it got a fungal infection and the other only a few months but it got root rot. Also killed a string of pearls and a burro tail plant lol, both from overwatering and bad soil/pots. I’m saving a small string of pearls I almost killed and a pothos plant that I had in one of those attached drain tray planters (never buying those again). Just hoping that those put out new shoots soon lol

Killed 3, saved 2, own 6! I recently repurchased one of the plants I killed, and with all the new knowledge I've gained he's doing pretty well!

Yes! That’s me too, repurchased a string of pearls, I hope it does better with my new knowledge about it

Same. I actually spent WAY too much on a new variegated SOP because it came from an Instagram influencer’s first live auction, and for that much, I better keep this one alive 😬

Haha well that’s good motivation, make the money worth it, I’m dying to get this rare Hoya compacta carnosa albovarigata lol, butttt I think I should stick to keeping my pothos alive first before taking the plunge into the rarities

I’ve killed 2 saved 5 and have 28 thriving plants and 10+ propagations! I’ve also killed about 6 aloe plants but then weren’t house plants so do they really count? šŸ˜‚

Props to you on your propagations! Hahaha awesome, now that’s the way to think of that šŸ˜‚ I thought I was ambitious trying aloe for a second time, idk what it is about those suckers lol

Aloe for some reason are so hard, I can’t keep them alive. šŸ˜‚ I gave up on them

Yeah lol, I try neglect and I somehow still kill it by ā€œoverwateringā€ šŸ˜‚

Same šŸ˜‚ also they apparently get sunburned easily so I think that’s where about half of mine went wrong because I only learned this recently

Really? I’ve never thought they could since they’re out in the desert normally, definitely a good tip if I give it another go lol

I killed two (an elephant bush prop and snake prop) and nearly two aloes, somewhat saved a golden pothos from root rot (the gnats are still around), and have 40 plants! I think I’m maxed out on plants for now šŸ˜… Quite a few are thriving!

Aw I hope your pothos pulls through too, it’s a sad one to see struggle since they’re supposedly easy and hard to kill lol, wow 40! That’s awesome too

I’ve only killed two so far - a croton and a pothos prop that failed. I’ve got a few other props that are doing well (monstera and jade plant) and a fiddle leaf prop that seems to be dying. I managed to save a Guiana chestnut money tree and the aforementioned jade plants though! I’ve been in the hobby about 6 months now and have nearly thirty healthy, thriving plants so far.

I’ve killed one, a ZZ plant. I’ve saved three, a FLF from root rot and two chamomiles. I own nine but are getting more soon!!

Oh my Alyssa funny you should ask. I’m was born into a family of planet growers and I admired and frankly I was a bit jealous because I couldn’t grow plants like the rest of my family members. I was traumatized when my first plants died, i had 3 of them a couple of years ago and they all broke my heart. I just recently have drummed up enough nerve to be a Plant Mom again. This time I studied about what plants I wanted to grow taking into consideration what they need I.e lighting, fertilizer, potting type and other things I would need to keep me and my plants happy. I’m finding joy in planting this time around and I truly believe my plants enjoy the way I fuss over their care and it makes them happy too. This year in July will make our 2nd year anniversary of thriving together. At present moment I have only 3 plants , 1 I brought back from a horrible time, it had lost all but 1 leave and now it’s full and beautiful. I’m looking forward to Mothering many more.
