Hi everyone! I am trying to learn how to take better care of my plants. I have never been good at taking care of them. Mostly because I am uneducated. I want to learn so I can have thriving healthy plants! Here they are. How do they look? Obviously my calathea leopardina is struggling. They are mostly in a dark room (in a temperature of 68). I unfortunately don’t have a lot of light in my house. I have recently been taking them outside for some indirect sunlight and humidity. I water once a week at most. Sometimes less. What can I do to help these guys? Thank you!!

make sure you aren't overwatering. plants in lower light conditions need less water. also make sure their outside time isn't to bright for them; they need to adjust to receiving fuller light. think about how when you step into a fully lit hallway from a dark room your eyes need to adjust before you keep moving- plants do that too!!

I have found most owners give their plants less credit for their survivability than due and tend to baby them. Despite what any watering schedule says, I wait for my monsterra s to show me that they need some water, before I give them a deep fill. Sometimes its a week, other times its three weeks. They are living beings with complex biochemical processes with variable lag between inputs and responses. They are not always the “best in show” condition, but good enough to reproduce and grow and look happy. If I may say so, give yourself and your plants some grace and enjoy their imperfections as their personalities😁. Eventually, as you spend more time with them, you will learn their preferences better than any guide or video can provide. It is admirable that you want to do better for your plants. That is a great start. My two cents. Good luck.

Yessssss. It irks me when people go chopping melting foliage before the plant can finish absorbing its nutrients… let them do their natural thing. And orchids…. Don’t get me started😅

Calatheas can be finicky. They need the bright indirect light. Mine hangs in a basket in an evening light window. I also utilize a day/night grow light system. They can be found fairly inexpensive just about anywhere. Same for your Monstera. Your pothos can survive nearly anywhere and thrive. I have cuttings in my fish tank, in pots with soil, in hydro and as long as you feed and water them they do well. Overall, Enokitada is absolutely on point with letting your plants tell you. I keep from overwatering by sticking a finger in the soil and checking the moisture depth…
