I feel like there may be some of you on here that get me on this! Thripedemic over here has me quite bummed! And I do soo many of the preventative pest things too… 🪴 So sad, truly! Thrips have caused the loss of many of my plants. A dear, expanding hobby of mine I’ve been spending years on. Building my collection, curating it and placing them all in my home in juuusst the right places… Much effort and tender care… sigh 😔 Picture is just of one of the ailing pothos I’m trying to save. Not possible with many others though

Hola! I’m sorry you’re having to deal with thrips - they are a nightmare. I had them last year and I tried all sorts of things. The main thing that worked (and without damaging my plants further), were beneficial mites. I got both the loose stuff and put them in homemade hanging boxes, and hung them on multiple plants, and I also got the ‘slow release’ sachets. I kept the affected plants in different rooms, but also treated my unaffected plants with the mites just in case. It took a few months, but it was well worth it. Prior to that, my efforts to stop them had been thwarted (and were super labour-intensive - like wrapping the pots up and leaving the foliage submerged in a soapy bath, pesticide sprays and whatever else). Good luck!

Oh… if you’ve used any pesticide already, you’ll have to wait several weeks before you can use beneficial mites as it’ll just kill them as well. You’ll have to look up how long based on which pesticide you’ve used. Or speak with the people who sell the beneficial pests. I got mine from Ladybird plant care and they were very helpful when I called for advice. I used Bioline’s amblyseius cucumeris mites in slow release sachets, plus the same mites in the shaker tub. I bought small favour boxes from amazon, assembled them and cut the lids into hook shapes, so I could hang them on the plants (for the mites in the shaker). While that was a bit of a faff one evening in front of the television, I’ve got them now for any other type of infestation where I may use beneficial mites (of course, disassembled and packed away, at the moment 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼)!

Thank you for the tips! I’m in Canada so will look into it but so far avoiding pesticides. I’ve lost so many… down from over 170 plants to the 150s 😭

I get them dang Thrips all too often. I check my plants once a week. If there's any pest, I spay the entire plant with pure Neem Oil deluted per instructions. I always have some sort of pest. Though, spraying when I see them keep the pest in check. It's a constant struggle. Though my plants are always in very good health.

I’ve never had them and hope I never will. I have thought about what I would do. At 160 plants it would be a lot to give up. I’m going to have to research them more. How to prevent and how to get rid of them.
