Hello I just got my first variegated plant who I love so so much it is a Monstera Thai Constellation. I repotted her using an orchid plant mix and the yellow bag of miracle grow I am obviously terrified of root rot because of the nature of the Thai constellation. I would love to get some advice on how to care for her. My house is usually at 50% humidity but was wondering about the best way to keep humidity in the air because we use a dehumidifier or humidity in my home will climb to 80% +. I would like her to be a climber so since she is small I am just using kitchen skewers. I would love any and all advice because I so desperately want to be a good plant mom to her.

So beautiful! (: I switched from the Miraclegro/orchid bark mix in favor of Molly’s Aroid Potting Mix. Not sure if it’s sold in stores but I order it on Amazon and it’s worked wonders for my root health. I swear by that stuff.

terracotta!!! i love terracotta for these things. for stakes, you can literally go outside and find fallen tree branches 😆 just bake them to sanitize them. you can find further instructions online. that's what i do for my stakes lol. my monstera thai had absolutely zero issue inside with humidity, but she is now outside because she was getting leggy. lots of plants do just fine in normal house humidity.

If I wasn’t trying to get big growth this year I totally would I might wait until this baby is larger but I love a terracotta pot

I have her in a west facing window currently but it is partially shaded so I was planning on setting up a weak grow light to help mitigate that.

Here is a little care list I personally find helpful for mine! Monstera Thai con (care ) Light - bright indirect Watering - twice a week if soil is mostly dry (very sensitive to overwatering) Soil - highly recommend repotting in a chunky soil mix Fertilizer- wait about a month or so before fertilizing (if the plant is new) but when you do use a light fertilizer for houseplants Humidity- needs to be 60-70% (highly recommend humidifier) Propagation - always propagate in areas with nodes , let dry out overnight and then place in water roots should start growing in a week or less. Leaf damage - brown spots are the most common check your plant’s roots for rot, if none seen it could be old damage ( a more common color for old damage is a dry brown color that isn’t soft to the touch)

Thank you so much I currently have a layer of diatomaceous earth down after repotting and gave her a good wipe down and treated her with insecticidal soap to be so safe and avoid thrips I don’t believe she is having symptoms but they actually terrify me. I also found this on her stem so if that is thrips I would love to know I have never seen or dealt with them before.

It is not harmful it just looks like old scale damage, my giant monstera has it too. Make sure not to mix the diatomaceous earth in the soil on the bottom/roots as it can cause shock.
