Morning, all! I just woke up to seeing one of my Alocasia’s leaves collapsed. 🥹🥀 It’s the Oldest leaf (I adopted it with that one leaf only a year ago.) Is this normal? Leaves looks healthy to me, well fed and watered too. Should I cut it now, or leave it? Thanks!

Its normal for them to abandon the oldest leaf to push out new growth.

it will help the plant put that energy into the new growth. i would cut it, but it will eventually fall off on its own.

Don’t cut it straight away. Let it die properly. Plant redirects nutrients from abandoned leaves into new growth.

I usually wait until the color of the dying leaf is faded before i cut it

I agree that it’s normal for it to lose the old leaf as it grows. was curious when this last had a repot or if you see any roots busting out the bottom (if it has drainage holes). I know alocasia’s like a snug pot, but maybe this beauty needs a little bit more room as it heads into growing season? Might be why it decided to sacrifice the old leaf, knowing it has to conserve the space and resources it has?

Everyone has different opinions on this. So it’s up to you.
