Weird question, Planta keeps telling me to mist these new plants I got. (I know I have to mist the air plant and that’s it’s way of receiving water) I have a decent amount of other plants and It’s never told me to mist them until I got these ones!! Is it just a coincidence that the 4 new plants I got at the same time need to be misted??šŸ˜‚Or is this a new feature in the app??

All my plants when I’ve added them to Planta automatically recommend a misting schedule but then I come into the communities and google and it seems 50% say I need to mist and 50% say I’ll kill my plants misting and it does no actual service to the plants. šŸ˜…

OMG. Ok so maybe I’ll skip most of the misting schedules. Maybe I’ll just do it like once in a while. Cuz it seems to be very very often like it told me to mist two days ago, and now again today!!

I thought I didn’t need to mist because I use a humidifier regularly. But one day I decided to follow the planta misting schedule. I immediately notice a difference with my plants. Nothing bets a failure but a try. And you can always stop misting if it’s not working for you.

No need to mist a plant. It will not add any humidity to the plant. It will evaporate in minutes and do nothing. If you want to increase humidity, add a humidifier or diffuser.

This is important, IMO. Our homes can be very dry environments in the winter months. Adding a humidifier helps with this, as well as grouping plants together or adding pebble trays. If you add humidifiers, be sure to watch if water is landing on the leaves and staying there. This can create fungal/mold issues.

You can turn off misting in the custom care settings for the plant. I don’t mist any of mine. Misting has a minuscule effect on local humidity and can increase chances of fungal or bacterial infections.

Oh boy, I’m glad I made this post!! I will definitely stop the misting schedules. The app said in the description of the misting prompt that it helps to ā€œkeep the leaves cleanā€ is that true??

Just to add in, I water my air plants by letting them sit in a bowl of water for 30-60 minutes. I’m not sure if misting to water them is enough long-term, but I haven’t tried it

Oh I didn’t know that was another way of watering!! The instructions that came with it plus Planta said spraying it with water. But if I see that isn’t enough than I will start to do that!! I just don’t know if I can get it out of the jar it’s in… I have a photo of it on my page if you want to see it. It’s from Lowe’s so it came in a decorative test tube- like bottle with a cut out on the side, fake bark and some rocks and everything is glued down so I hope the plant isn’t glued downšŸ˜…

Seconding the water soak for 60 mins just make sure to hang ā€˜em upside down for a bit after to let the water drip out of the crevices & prevent any rot ā˜ŗļøā˜ŗļø

Hey well if it works, it works! Maybe I don’t need to be spending so much time watering mine 🤣 I thought they would have dried out with just misting. I stand corrected! My friend had a glued air plant a while back. The oldest ā€œleavesā€ got peeled off when she pulled it out of the glass, but I think it was fine after all
