Yes i was scared of it too! I didnt even realize it was happening until i stopped caring for them as intensely and then they faded into the background, i hope i can get that same passion back!
2 J'aimeMaybe start gifting them to people???? I need to STOP getting them or i will do that

Its an addiction i swear, they look all pretty and suddenly ur house is covered in plants lol
1 j'aimeYou could select ones you wouldn’t mind parting with and see if there is a yard sale site in your area where you can post them?
2 J'aimeTry to sync up your plants so you’re watering on the same days, and be kind to yourself. And when purchasing plants, select low maintenance ones. Your burros tail is neat!!

Thank you so much! I struggle w getting them all on the same day bc im always snoozing them lol, dedicating one day definitely might be easier, thank you again!
1 j'aimeI had burnout over the winter a year ago so last fall I gave most of my smaller plants away. It gave me time to relax and enjoy the few I had left. Once spring came I started propagating and planting seeds so I can do the same thing in the fall!

That sounds better than caring for many, i just get so attached to them itll be hard to part with them, but we all have to do hard things sometimes, thank you so much!!

I have about 120 plants and I feel your pain. I spend a lot of time on them.. keeping them healthy is definitely hard work but I really enjoy watching them grow. However it’s gotten to the point I need to slow down a bit… I’m a mom, who also owns a photography & makeup artistry business on top of helping my husband at his pizza shop business… so I’m a very busy girl. But plants are a hobby I do for myself and no one else. So I try to remind myself of that every time I feel like I’m tired and don’t feel like doing my plant chores. I’m about to go to bed cause I actually did planty chores all day haha

Yes im graduating, so the past few months have just been one thing after another with no breaks, and coupled with weightlifting and exercising, it feels like i dont have time for anything, i cant imagine what its like with 120, i hope after school is over things will slow down, thank you for your comment, makes me feel less alone
1 j'aimeMaybe try to remember your why. Why’d you get them, why you love them, why you even keep them. But have less than 10 plants so I understand your reasoning lol. Giving away some doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

Yes thank you, thats a great way to change my thinking, instead of thinking its something i have to do, why i get to do it

I don’t have 70 but I get it. I try and just tackle a few at a time. doing a little every few days is better than all at once. THAT is very overwhelming. And I also tackle the thirstier ones first.

Thank you for the advice, ill try and take care of the needier ones instead of focusing on the fact that theres so many that need to be caref for

At around 200 I just started giving up… condensed down to 140ish. Pot plants with similar needs together!

I get so nervous that they wont like eachother!! I have thought about combining my syngoniums, but im unsure if different types would clash with needs, what types do you combine?

Yeah… it can be tricky. You can definitely put a lot of different succulents together. Can be fun to make your own little arrangement too!

That could be cute, thank you for the suggestion!!
0 J'aimei don’t have too many, but i definitely have them in kind of priority list, needs-wise. i NEED to be taking care of my lucky bamboo/creeping jenny/corn plant. if necessary, my succulents and pothos can take care of themselves

This is smart! Ill take into consideration which ones deffo cant survive without care, and focus on the rest when i have the motivation, thank you!

i have about 60 plants including propagations and sell any extras or give them away frequently. i have a chronic condition and can’t tend to my plants sometimes, so i’ve chosen mostly drought resistant plants like succulents, spider plants, monstera, etc. my needier plants, hoya and prayer plants mainly, are always at the top of my checklist or priority list when i do have energy to check plants and water. it’s nice to see people talking about this aspect of plant care more, sometimes you end up with too many plants. favor the ones that bring you joy, it’s okay give some away or lose them otherwise if that’s how things go.

Thank you for sharing, i have many i get really attached to, but i think if theyre stressing me out, its not worth to have. And yes, i think its good to show that its not all positive in plant care, it gets hard, especially if u do have disabilities like a chronic illness, and showing that its okay to feel that way. I felt guilty for a while bc i never see anyone talk about this, and im happy a lot of people dont fault me for it, and sympathize, were all human, thank you so much, it means a lot!

i’m really glad i was able to help. we’re all human like you said, and we all have limits. i don’t think anyone should feel self-conscious about being overwhelmed or burnt out by caring for too many plants. keeping hundreds or even thousands of plants like some online influencers do is a lot of work, physical and mental, as well as financial stress. a bit off topic, but i’ve noticed some people in online circles, like plant forums, are struggling with obsessive/compulsive tendencies especially in regards to purchasing too many plants. i find it difficult and concerning to see people encouraging this kind of behavior— spending several hundred dollars in one go on a few plants you might kill in a few months is often celebrated. overall the culture of this community is not very mental-health friendly despite how the vibes might seem “zen” and relaxed on the surface. nobody should feel shame about having these kind of issues, and i believe we should always be encouraging each other to be better. hobbies and community are meant to be rewarding ❣️
