Goals. My syngonium are shaking in their roots
2 likesI use this method for most of my aroids in potting mix and it’s been a game changer for root growth. You basically use a net pot (or poke more holes in the normal pot) and a just slightly larger cache pot. Put something like a small rock or disposable bottle lid in the cache pot, then set the net pot on top of that. When you water, leave maybe 1/2 in the cache pot so that the pot is sitting above the water. The extra humidity and air around the pot cause the roots to grow like crazy, and that means the plant can grow faster too. Plus it’s just so satisfying

3 likesIt’s actually not! I mostly recommend buying the orchid pots with larger holes like this one. Or, if you punch your own holes, try to make them at least as big around as a pencil. When it’s time to repot I just gently unwind the roots and wiggle/pull through. I lost a few small secondary roots on this one but nothing big at all. The trick as far as I can tell is that most of these aren’t actually “water roots”; they’re roots that grew into the very humid space between the pot walls and the water in the bottom, which seems to make things sturdier
