I have this spider plant that I propagated from a cutting I was given a few months ago. It hangs about two feet in front of my window and I water it when the soil is about half or almost fully dry. The tips are brown and crispy and it doesn’t seem to have grown much since I planted it. It has had a few babies sprout up but they die soon after growing. Does anyone know how I can help it?

Don’t fret, this is a common problem for spider plants. From the looks of it, it seems that its not getting enough water frequently since there’s brown tips and the leaves look a little thin. I would water it a little more often. They also love humidity, so you could also look into getting a humidifier. If you’re really concerned, you could also check the roots for root rot. Sometimes the brown tips can indicate overwatering, but judging by how thin the leaves are I’d say it’s under watered. But root rot happens when you have water trapped on the bottom of the pot. So it’s important to have sufficient drainage as well. That was a lot but that’s my advice :D

Thank you so much! I’ll make sure to increase the watering and humidity :))

I was thinking overwatering, too. My spider babies were in the rain for 4 days and they had dry tips afterwards. Spider plants like to get pot bound as long as there is good drainage. I think the pot is too big for such a little plant. Too much soil holding too much water for the plant to use. So, roots sit in water too long. I recommend you repot to a smaller pot. A 4 inch pot is a better option for a plant that small. Use well draining soil. Add more perlite, if needed. Water when the soil is completely dry. The picture shows my spider babies in 4 inch recycled pots.

Thank you! Would it be okay to repot now or should I wait until winter is over?

Repot anytime for spider plants (or other plants not in dormancy) as long as they are in a warm environment, get more that 6 hours of light and regular diluted fertilizer. They will be fine.

it looks like your plant might be in too big of a pot for its size. it’s definitely ok to repot in the winter especially if your plant needs it. so I would take it out of that planter and put it in a pot with drainage that’s just 1-2” bigger than its rootball.
