Okay, so sad to write this. Our plant Whitney was soooooo much alive when we got her and now she’s sad asf lol At first, she didn’t have a drain and some of you mentioned how she’s difficult and needs a drainage pot. So we just switched her over and put her closer to light. But man, by the hour she’s getting said and bottom leaves start turning! Any advice? Her soil currently is wet. Like wow. Her before and after within 2 weeks and her leaves. Then said to water her until water comes out the bottom but dang. It’s not leaving the pot lol ugh. I feel so bad for her. Any advice lol

They hate wet toes. Moist soil, but NOT wet toes, it’s tough to keep the balance.

So what I’m getting is that when you water the water isn’t coming out the drainage hole? How did you pot it up?

Well, that’s just a current new problem. We potted her last night, and then this morning she even looked more sad, so my boyfriend asked someone at the plant store and he said when we water her, we should see the water coming out of the drain. So we did so, and no water has been coming out of the drain. It’s a pot that has a drain hole on the bottom, but is lifted a few inches from the ground with the drain attached. I put a little bit of soil in there first then put her in there and packed her not tightly but with soil around her.

Okay, Hmmm would you be able to take a picture of the drain and tray situation up close?

Okay thanks! Sooooo, I’d say it’s suffering from overwatering if you haven’t removed the bottom plug to drain the excess water. Basically the roots are drowning in water by sitting in it for too long of a duration, which makes the plant wilt

OK, so update this is what she looks like from overnight. We left her in the tub to drain hopefully as well as we left the light on in there. We can tell that her leaves started lifting a little bit more now! So I’m feeling a little bit more hopeful! And in regards to her soil for your question, the soil has been organic indoor potting mix by miracle grow

Also, random, but if one of her leaves starts yelling or browning, should we cut that part off? I’ve read different things in regards to cutting leaves.

I have a massive dumb cane it was my first plant out here in Indiana, I pretty much give her a Starbucks cup full of water once a week it's my heartiest plant the cats and kids have knocked it over so many times and it keeps on going I just know Whitney's going to pull through 🥰🤸🧡🫶🪴

When I re-pot plants I use small rocks at the bottom for drainage. It seems to work well. I’m rehabbing 2 plants that were attacked by my fur babies. They’re still alive and one is improving slowly.

I did that at first as well, but this plant community that I had some questions with mentioned how that apparently is a myth and all of that stuff, and even sent me some links and some backup stuff for it. So now I’m just kind of not going that way lol but thank you so much for the comment and the thought!

That's a great idea about the rocks my fur babies seem to leave my plants alone it's my poor snake plants that my bearded dragon likes to tear up every day I'm constantly repotting them poor things he knows I don't want him to do it so when he's feelin spicy he'll look at me crazy and dive into them 😩🤦‍♀️

I use to have a bearded dragon! He lived to be about 9-10 years old. I miss him so much. I can’t imagine what he would think about all my plants lol.
