Orchids: I have NEVER been successful with orchids until a year ago. Is this a new flower spike on an old flower spike? Is that a thing? It really does not look like an Ariel root….

    Yes, that is a thing. To tell the difference between a root and a flower spike just look at the end. A root will be smooth with a gray outer coating. A flower spike will be slightly pointed and look like a mitten.
