So, someone asked if I use the “ice method” to water my Chinese Elm bonsai. Any explanation as to what/how that is? Mine seems very happy starting the growing season…just never heard of that way of watering.

I know for orchids some people sit an ice cube on the soil to slowly water them so maybe something like that? I don’t know much about bonsai though so not sure if that’s what they meant lol

That’s what I imagined as they said it…?

I just looked it up and it looks like it’s the same thing as with orchids! Some labels say to use ice cubes to water them but it’s not actually recommended

Thanks Elmer and I have just started our journey together…he’s a healthy 20 yr old tho, so hoping he works with me well!

Be wary though if you use ice cubs that the cold water of the cube can shock the plant as well if they’re not use to that temp/coldness

That’s what I was thinking…Elmer seems happy with my watering routine thus far.
