I need help with my draceanea dragon tree plant. I have repotted it in a bigger pot. The plant has gotten very tall. I've been told I can cut the stalk from the top and it will start growing new stalks below. Is that true? If yes , when should I do that? It is early fall right now. The plant has been outside all summer. It is indoors the rest of the year. Thank you.

I have one in my office and I “beheaded” it this spring. I cut off the top and pulled off about 8 leaves below the cut, to free up some nodes. I left the rest of the leaves on so it could still absorb the sun. She looked very weird for a while & it took several months (3-4) but once her new branches were big enough, and making lots of new leaves, I pulled off all the lower leaves. There are some videos on YouTube and some articles online for extra information & inspiration 😃 🪴 You can also propagate the top cuts, but I failed at that. I know there is lots of stuff online on how to accomplish rooting a top cut.

Different type of Dracaena, but I chose to chop of a large portion at the top because she was getting leggy….shes pushed off sooooo many new shoots since then!!
