I bought my first plant recently however it hasn’t been looking great. I’ve had it for a bit over a week and it’s loosing its shape and seems one of the leaves has dried up. Its a parlour palm and i have been watering it every 1-2 days and tried to keep it out of direct sunlight, i’ve also tried used a little bit of plant feed. Does anybody know what i’m doing wrong?
I think you are overwatering it. Always check the top 1-2 inches of soil. Stick your finger in the soil and if it’s dry then water. If it feels damp then wait a few more days. Make sure the pot has drainage. Plants should not sit in water. Finally, it might need some adjustment time to your home.

I had the same problem last year. The only thing that worked was finding a spot that has no drafts on top of a chest and misting with a fine spray of water. She’s 6 feet away from a south window and 10 from a west window. They also like to be pruned once a month. I was using fish emulsion and it worked well but I am testing out a different type made by Schultz and I’m seeing good results. Oh, I only water mine with Zero water or distilled water! It keeps the tips from going brown and tap water will kill it. The nats are terrible and I have tried everything and found cinnamon powder and charcoal chunks on top has worked the longest. Did you take it home in freezing weather? It could be cold damaged. Most palms need to be above 50°F. A palm doesn’t dry out like this in a week especially if you are frequently watering it.

0件のいいね It only takes a few minutes in cold or freezing weather to permanently damage the leaves of tropical plants. The damaged parts have a low chance of reviving. Stop watering and wait until the soil dries out or you will add root rot to a plant already going through stress. Give it another week to get adjusted. Then, cut off the dead parts. Give it sufficient light (10hrs)/day and regular fertilizer. It should recover and put out new growth. Good luck🍀🪴

The best advice I EVER received was it’s easier to save an underwatered plant than an overwatered one. It really drilled I to my head that plants (mostly) can dry all the way out and be ok. A water meter or the skewer into the soil works well. There are varying opinions about how deep into the soil you should go. Sometimes it’s just being patient and figuring out what works for you and your plants
