Happy National Plant a Flower Day! 🌻 Today, we aren’t just planting for beauty - we’re planting for the future of our local ecosystems. Why go native? 🌻 Native plants are the backbone of our environment. They’ve evolved over thousands of years to provide the exact food and shelter your local bees, birds, and butterflies need to survive. By choosing a native species, you’re not just growing a flower; you’re restoring a piece of the wild. Plus, they are perfectly adapted to your climate, meaning they are naturally more resilient! THE CHALLENGE: We want to fill the comments with local inspiration. 1️⃣ Look up flowers native to your area. 2️⃣ Comment the name of the flower and where you’re located (City/State/Region). 3️⃣ Let’s get planting. Are you in? 👇

Southern Oregon here! Milkweed native to my area is Showy Milkweed. This pictured is milkweed I grew from seed 3 years ago (picture was taken last summer). I harvest the seeds every August and have other patches starting throughout the yard, or just give the seeds away. Eagerly awaiting its emerge this spring! Native gardening is my lifelong passion, so it's neat to see a post about it on here. 🥹

Another Southern Oregonian here! I second what Celesta said, it’s wonderful to see discussion here about native plants! Here’s a picture of a late fall monarch chrysalis attached to a branch of a western redbud in my native pollinator garden.

Purple coneflower and black-eye Susan are the two I see all the time on the trails when I hike or bike. I'm in Nebraska. I have really steep hill in my backyard and have tried to get native flowers to grow there for several reasons, but the honest reason is because it's a huge workout mowing it. 😆

I finally found some seeds for lyre-leaf green eyes. They’re also called chocolate daisies. They’re a native plant in west Texas. They have a very strong chocolate scent. I love when I find a patch of them!

I’m in north Florida and started planting local groundcover. Unfortunately I’m coming across species which are not known to Planta. Specifically the twinflower Oblong, Swamp, Dyschoriste oblongifolia Dyschoriste humistrata These are fairly specific to our area, but tolerate the brutal sun and humidity well. What do you do to try and track unknown to Planta plants? Just choose what the AI thinks it is? Thanks!

I submitted 1 through the app but will send both with a couple of web links although you probably have better resources than I would use. Thanks!
