Anyone have a good amount of experience with scindapsus’s? This is my 3rd attempt at having one & I’m having issues with the leaves curling & the plant eventually dying or to the point where it just looks awful - does that mean it needs more water or is it perhaps another issue? I got the one in the pic 6+ months ago & it’s doing okay since I repotted a few months ago in a chunkier tropical soil mix, but not as good as I’d like - still noticing some curling leaves & really small new growth! (note: have it on a 6 day watering schedz about 1ft away from an east facing window so it should be getting a good amount of morning light).

these are always so tricky. the tough part is that leaf curling on these is a symptom of like…everything that could possibly be wrong. under/inconsistent/overwatering, too much/not enough light, not enough humidity (could it be this??), pests, deficiencies. .. do you fertilize? not sure what time of day you took this but it does look a bit too dark. a growlight might be a good move for this plant since you seem determined to keep one (i get it — they’re lovely!)

Thanks for replying!! Could be a humidity issue now that I’m thinking of it (it’s in my bedroom & the fan is constantly on - ((need it to sleep!) wondering if it’s drying the air up)). I do *think* it’s getting enough light (all the light comes in the morning & the pic was taken in the evening!) I don’t really want to move it, however I might opt for a humidifier instead, see if that helps!

It doesn’t look like a humidity issue. Adding a humidifier should not hurt. I run ceiling fan 24 hours a day with no issues except I water the plants below the fan more often. Some leaves look small for this variety of scindapsus. That’s another sign it needs more light. If all the scindapsus dies in this location. Then, this is not a good location for the plant. My pic shows the leaf sizes with summer lighting when it was outside and when it was inside during winter. The small leaves and long spaces between the nodes is a sign it had too little light inside the house.

I agree with eatyacarbs about the lighting and fertilizer requirements. The area in the photo is too dark. They thrive in bright indirect light. I would put it lower in the window or get a grow light and run it 12 hours a day. Letting the plant stay dry for too long will curl the leaves. It takes awhile to uncurl. Fertilize it twice a month with 50% diluted liquid fertilizer during the warmer months. 🍀🪴

Thank you for the advice! I can definitely trying placing it directly in the window (the past plants I’ve had of this variety died in a different location in front of a north facing window so not enough light was prob the issue). This location gets pretty bright direct morning light for about 4 hrs then medium bright indirect…but maybe if I place a grow light above the plant it’ll help?🤔

You can use sheer curtains to diffuse the light if you think it’s too harsh. Typically, direct sunlight before 9am or 10am is not too intense. Slowly acclimate the plant to morning light to avoid burns. A grow light is another option.
