Does anyone have experience with a Fittonia nerve plant “pink forest flame”? I swore I couldn’t buy another plant and, lo and behold, I saw this beautiful plant baby and had to have it. But when I got home and researched it, wouldn’t you know, she’s labeled as “hard” to grow. I don’t think I would have brought her home if I had known that. If you’re familiar with this beautiful plant, would you be so kind as to send me any information you’ve learned about raising one. TXS. 💚🪴😵‍💫 PS I’d rather not kill her!

Genuinely, this has been one of my easiest plants to grow. I was scared too, but she’s been a gem. For mine, she’s in an east window (southern MN) actually in line with the window frame. She gets indirect light and growing like crazy! Honestly, I didn’t think she’d survive on such little light but she’s loving it. She is thirsty frequently, and I regularly follow Planta’s watering schedule (this is one of the few plants that when it says water, I have to water it soon). These plants can be dramatic if they aren’t watered. A happy plant leaf is almost a little stiff and rough; if it starts to soften or get wimpy, time to water it. Fertilizing does help keep this plant strong and thriving. I hope this helps! This is my experience with my fittonia “red nerve” plant. I was nervous too but it has honestly been a dream plant.

I just repotted mine after having no issues for almost a year. It went into shock when I repotted, and now it’s dead! So be careful! They don’t like the roots to be messed with if possible when repotting, which I am now learning. Super easy to care for before then though! It would get a little droopy when it needed some water and would bounce back within minutes! Mine needed water every couple days, so make sure you keep an eye on it!

Oops! I saw some baby roots growing out of the bottom of my nerve plant’s pot so gently pulled her out to check the roots and she totally fell apart! She definitely has a lot of roots and I was thinking of letting her sit for a week to adjust and then repotting her. What do you think? Do you know if they like to be root bound, or should I repot her now if she has roots coming out the bottom? TXS also for the info on watering. I will be careful about that. 😊💚🪴

In thinking about it, if the dirt fell apart, even if she has lots of tiny roots, she doesn’t sound like she’s root bound, does she? So maybe I should wait and see if she’s going to get shocky after this experience and put off the repotting. What do you think?🧐🪴

ah yes, fittonias are quite the warrior in my experience 😂 i find that they grow best in terrariums or with a glass/plastic cover over them for a few days after watering. really just any kind of high humidity environment. i’ve had mine for a couple years and she’s been through it lol but she stays strong. as long as you focus on keeping humidity up and growing in a low light area, you’re pretty much set.

I’m an expert in buying difficult plants, though ones whose demands are “leave us alone, please.” I picked up a Nerve plant as a “I want something leafy” without thinking one night, and quickly had to improvise a more tropical soil because, well, I grow cactus. The point is that it has been on top of the fridge about 15 feet from a window (no direct light, really) and all I’ve done is mist and water when my Planta alerts pop. The only real rule I try to follow is keep it away from a draft.

So pretty… TXS for the picture! I’m amazed to hear how easy your plant has been to care for since she’s supposed to be a “hard“ plant. Even though you have the background to successfully care for these difficult plants, it sounds like this plant has been a breeze to raise. TXS for your helpful info. Hope my “Nervy” will be as easy to grow as yours has been. 😊💚🪴

I hope my comment was read as “an expert at buying these” not “I’m an expert with difficult plants” haha. I’m good at getting in over my head really quickly the moment I think I have something figured out. The only thing that’s “easy” about this plant for me is that it immediately yells (i.e. leaves curl) when it’s thirsty; a cactus will let me know in three months if I did something wrong 😑
