This is a fungal infection that happens for different reasons like environmental stress, drastic movement from one area to the next, getting accidentally hit, open wounds or not enough airflow, to much water and not enough direct sunlight. They can heal which will likely scar or what is called corking. Try a liquid copper fungicide and follow instructions to the T. Wait at least 3 weeks before the next watering but make sure the soil is completely dry and never not water your cactus for a long period of time in the growing season. Acclimate to direct sun.
