Hi! I’m a beginner/intermediate plant owner and I’m now looking to become more educated on fertilizing my plants. I got a succulent fertilizer for my succulent types and was so excited to see them pop off! What’s a good all purpose fertilizer? I have a lot of snake plants, a variety of ficus’s, a few monsteras and some pothos. One of my plant corners below ☺️ EDIT: thank you everyone for all your advice!!

I use the succulent fertilizer on my snake plants. I like the organic indoor plant fertilizer from The Grow Co as my general. It stiiiinks out of the bottle, but not in your plants. A little goes a long way and it’s very gentle. You also can’t go wrong with Fox farm. I use the FF Big Blooms on my blooming plants

Hi! I think a great place to start is a fertilizer with 10-10-10 npk ratio. I use a liquid fertilizer, I just think it’s easier. The snake plants will probably only need to be fertilized a few times a year. your pothos, ficus, and monsteras will be at least once a month during the growing season. I really like the espoma brand, but got the miracle gro most recently (it has a pump) but I don’t love the product.

I use standard blue Miracle Gro (MG) for almost all my plants because they are mostly tropical foliage plants. I use the acidic fertilizer for plants that require an acidic soil like conifers, azaleas and camellias. I use the MG orchid fertilizer on my hoyas. I use a top dressing of organic fertilizer like cow manure on my large potted plants that live outside because I rarely repot those. The manure adds nutrients back into the soil. I also use timed release fertilizer in those largest pots.

I love superthrive from dyna gro. I use a diluted amount every time I water. Mix that in with some silicone as well.

What kind of silicon additive do you use?

It’s dune silicic acid. It’s a bit expensive but it lasts a while. It’s supposed to bond better than powder silicone. Which you are supposed to wait 20 minutes before adding in any other additives. I think it’s helping my variegated plants last longer. I’m still on my first bottle so it’s hard to say for sure. I’m still fairly new to silicone so I just went with one I saw people praising on YouTube.

I like Schultz cactus because it’s got a dropper in the lid and I only need 7 drops per liter/quart and my cactus and succulents look great 😊 For my tropical plants I am trying out Leafy Lux and its only been a couple weeks but it seems to be doing fine
