I just ordered a moss pole off Amazon and the scent is quite strong. It’s a moldy mildewy smell. How do I get the smell out so I can use it in my house? Any suggestions would be good. It’s not wet or damp, it just has that manufacturing smell I guess.

I just opened one also last night and it had a weird smell. I put it outside overnight and will check it when I get home today to see if that lightened it up.

I did the same. It’s on my front porch swing, but I’m in FL and the humidity is high as well as the temp. It may not air out that much. I thought I read you could put it in a garbage bag in the freezer for awhile and see if that helps. 🤷‍♀️ I also thought of that POOF spray you see commercials for. Supposed to suppress any smell. I was looking at my monstera and the little roots sticking out of the plant are close to the ground. I don’t see any roots or nubs to attach to the moss pole. Have you ever used one before? This is my first monstera and my first moss pole. Thanks for writing.

I have a couple moss poles mostly for my Pothos’. I would assume that if you keep the moss pole moist (which I don’t) that they will eventually attach into them. I spray them down occasionally but not nearly enough as would be needed to keep moist. (I have way too many plants to keep up with spraying lol) They assist me in keeping them growing upwards. I’m not interested in “attaching”so much. But I have seen that they will. They plastic ones that you stuff with moss and whatnot would be best for attaching though because the pre ready poles are stagnant and if you needed to detach it would be a horrible mess of ripping up vines. The plastic ones at least you can open and take them out without so much damage. Sorry this was long winded… 😊
