Hello! This is my first Monstera and I am enamored with her. She is growing a lovely new leaf, but she also has these two stubby, broken ends below it. Why does that happen? Should I be worried or doing anything about them? Context - i received her as a gift about 3 weeks ago. I moved her to this bigger pot and she seems to be settling in well (new leaf!). The crispy edges on one leaf and these two stubs were present when I got her.

It’s probably just a leaf that was damaged and either fell off or was cut off. Since they’re still green they’re still alive, so you can leave them on the plant. If they start yellowing and looking like they’re dying or are dead you can then cut them off. The crispy edge of the other leaf is probably a sign of sunburn, and you can carefully cut it off the leaf if you want to. But overall it looks pretty healthy and it pushing out a new leaf means you’re taking care of it well!

Great news!! I’ll keep an eye on them but leave it for now. Thank you :)

I would also recommend getting a stake for your monstera. You can use either a wooden plank or a moss pole. This will cause your monstera to start climbing (which they naturally do or they start to spread across the ground) and will cause your plant to get bigger leaves and more fenestrations.

Is a wooden plank sufficient? I warned that you need to keep the moss poles constantly moist. But I could manage wood haha

As long as it’s an appropriate size for the plant, it’ll do well. Get a wood plank from a species that is low-rotting (like cedar) and put it in the back of the pot to tie it to your plant. It’s what I used for my little monstera, before it got root rot and got thrown into a water propagation.

I agree it’s just a leaf that was cut off
