I’m hoping to save my mum’s plant, does anyone have any advice please. It doesn’t actually have any roots, it’s just stuck in the soil at the moment. My mum’s upset to see it suddenly break/start to die, she says it’s been doing well for over two years until now. I think it’s a peperomia hope but I’m not sure! Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

It’s a Peperomia rotundifolia :) I would transfer it to water to let it grow roots more easily. That will also make it easier to monitor the roots. It looks like it might not be getting enough light. A brighter spot would help root growth as well

when you decide to eventually put it back into soil (after it establishes healthy roots) consider looking into a rooting hormone called super thrive!

A similar thing happened to my peperomia hope last year. It had been doing well (if slow-growing) for 1-2 years and I just tucked it on a shelf and didn’t pay much attention. When I realized it wasn’t growing I checked the roots and found it didn’t have any! It took some definite trial and error, but what eventually worked was rooting it in moist (not soaked) perlite in a small cup with drainage/aeration holes I poked all over the sides. Six months later and she’s well-rooted and growing! Not at all to say these things won’t work for you, but things I tried for 6+ weeks without any rooting at all were water (with or without rooting hormone) and very wet perlite (where the water line came up to almost the top of the perlite). Roots came quickly when I kept the perlite but just drizzled a little water over top every few days so that the water line was never more than 1/3 up the cup
