first time plant owner!! Help! Do the roots stay in the water? The two bigger things are the self watering part of the setup! But all the little strings are roots. Where do I go from here?

wait until the new leaf unfurls so the shock doesn't deform it, then repot into either a larger self watering pot or into a normal pot of the same size. they like their soil chunky but not too chunky, so 50% soil 25% perlite 25% orchid bark or something similar. make sure if you're moving to soil that you don't pick a pot that's too big, alocasias are prone to root rot

1 j'aimeI see a lot of people on instagram showing off alocasia that are grown in semihydro and the roots have gotten all the way down into the water layer so it shouldn’t be too harmful for the plant to leave them there, the main problem is just that those plants are ready for a bigger pot. Always go up 1-2 inches in pot size at a time to prevent getting too large of a pot and use a very well draining medium like the one plantgeek recommends (I use similar but I didn’t do orchid bark, I used pumice). I have everything to try out doing semihydro but I’m just waiting for when I repot, my Polly are doing fine in my soil mix for now and my cuprea is still in the store pot. My regal shields just way too big to do semi hydro and I’m sure I’ll have to repot it to something outdoors if it gets bigger
