Any advice on repotting a 4’ tall schefflera umbrella tree which probably has root rot. She’s been glorious until this summer and now she’s dropping branches with leaves like crazy💔. Thanks

    Have you moved the plant recently? Is it getting less light? If you suspect root rot then repotting to fresh well draining soil is the best thing you can do. When I first got my umbrella plant it was dropping branches like crazy until it was no longer "stressed" from the environment change. Hope this helps !

      Hi Gigi. Nope I’ve had this girl for about 10 years and she’s been pretty much in the same place. I think it’s time to freshen her up. It’s gonna be a monumental task. I read I don’t need to get a bigger pot also. So fresh potting soil and lotsa muscle. She’s pretty big and the pot is heavy. Wish me luck✌🏼🌻

    Hopefully you have a friend or two. I just bought one yesterday from my local grocer and I’m afraid I might be facing the same problem. The soil is wet and I’m struggling to get her out of the pot. I left her in the garage hoping she might dry out. She is nowhere near the size of yours. I truly hope you can save it. Best of luck.

      I’m gonna let her dry out as much as I can and then hope I don’t drop her. The pot is a pretty ceramic thing which would look like shit shattered on my deck😆

    Okay JayBee, I stopped feeling sorry for myself after thinking about your project and worked the plant out of the pot. I think this has to have root rot as the bottom leaves all around are turning yellow. I’ll try breaking the soil off the roots and give it a few days.

      Hey Dot. I also read to cut off any mushy gross roots if rot is present. Our babies will either love our efforts or pass peacefully from the shock. I’m hoping they feel the love🫶🏼🤞🏽💚

    The deed is done. Trimmed off about 2’, cut off some tangled old roots, repotted in fresh clean soil and I see babies I didn’t see before. She’s lost so many branches - looking really sparse💔 Hope the girl survives the makeover. 💚
