Hello, I am trying to propagate my wandering Jew plant in water. I haven’t seen any roots and they have been in water for a few weeks now. I have them cut down to manageable vines and the bottom leaves were taken off to prevent rot and their are plenty of nodes but they don’t seem to want to root. Any advice? Should I try to get them to root in soil instead of water? Thanks in advance!

Hmm that’s strange since trandescantias usually root pretty quickly. Do you have a pic? Also, how much light are they getting?

Those vines are really long I’m wondering if that could be the issue? I typically prop these as small vine clippings maybe 2-4 inches in length. Typically I get roots within 4-5 days.

Vines are too long. The energy is going into maintaining the stems and leaves only. Water props: Leave 3 nodes per cutting. Put the cutting in water with 2 nodes under water. Leave 1 node above water. Roots should grow out within a week or two at the latest. Add 50% diluted fertilizer and SuperThrive plant vitamins to the water with every water change after the roots appear. Change the water once a week or when it gets cloudy. Some advise to keep half of the old water. It won’t hurt. Soil props: You can propagate directly into soil. Poke a hole in the potting mix. Remove all leaves that are under the soil to prevent rot. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone powder. Place into the hole. Watering will fill in the hole around the cutting. Tug lightly on the cutting in two weeks to check for roots. Fertilize after the roots appear. 🍀🪴
