So this is my Alocasia Fry Fry as I call her 😩 as you can see she is looking loopy. For first time ever she got spider mites and I got rid of it (so I thought) is this the end of her ? Her color isn’t as vibrant and she barely stands. Does anyone know what can be done? or why she just completely faded. I don’t change her routine there she loved just put her solo to not spread
I’d give her some support to come back from fighting those pests. Help her stand again.

I just transplanted mine into a glass container with spag moss and mine is doing better than ever, not sure if this will work for yours but it’s worth a shot

Yeah i would prop her up with a chopstick or something to help her stay upright and see if that works. If not then put her into water or spaghnum moss until she's recovered.

0件のいいねHi Lizzi, I wouldn’t worry too much about the dull leaf color. I could be mistaken, but in my experience that’s a normal symptom of spider mites in alocasia. The affected leaves will always be that dull color, but new growth will return to normal colors after you deal with the infestation. Droopiness could be a symptom of the spider mites as well since they are phloem feeders that literally suck the sap out of your leaves.As for “getting rid” of the spider mites, I have good and bad news. The good news, I’m very experience at dealing with spider mites because I love alocasia and have many. The bad news is that I developed this experience because I’m not totally convinced they ever completely go away if you have a big enough house plant population. They can be controlled though! I have somewhere around 100 indoor plants, and I constantly use Bonide Systematic Insecticide granules on everything. It’s is just a preventative that’s applied to the top soil every 2 months, and it’s safe to use indoors on any plant that won’t be eaten. The granules slowly dissolves as you water the plant and it does wonders for suppressing any new infestations and preventing outbreaks from taking over my whole population. I highly recommend using this on everything if you have even a few houseplants stored near this one. Additionally, any time I see spider mites on a plant, I spray the affected plant and any plants near it with bonide insecticidal soap, which kills insects on contact by dissolving the exoskeleton. In combination this is by far the most effective control strategy I’ve found, and I’ve used it to save my alocasias from thrips, mealy bugs, and spider mites so far! I’m happy to share alocasia care tips I’ve come across and explain why I recommend the strategy above over neem oil if you’re curious as well. I don’t want to overwhelm though. I use my plant science PhD mostly for hobbies now and love sharing information with people who want to learn 😁
