So when do you all decide that it’s over for your plant and that you want to either throw it away or give it up to someone else? lol I thought I’d be a “keep em forever” type but not being able to get things right for some of them is actually turning into being a bother. I have an Anthurium who’s hated it here for almost as long as I’ve had it her, a Calathea that was absolutely fine until I fell off schedule, and a baby orchid that I fear isn’t going anywhere anytime soon! Oh and a Māori Haze begonia that is over here playing game with my hear. lol all of them have prime grow light real estate and increasingly less Spark Joy.

Literally when there is no more joy! I turned down a free plant form my plant dealer last week because I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by plant chores. 😂. A pothos and she said “but it’s free!” 😂

I hear you! You win some, you loose some, I’ve learned over the years. I still have a very hard time letting go though. I was just trying to get caught up on watering and actually got myself to move pots that literally only had soil left in them😂 If it becomes too much, repot into smaller pots and give it one last try. Otherwise, sadly, might be graveyard time… 😔

When it doesn’t bring me joy its gotta go - I have other plants that I enjoy taking care of and would rather focus on 💚

I needed to ‘hear’ this today. I have a Parlor Palm that looks bad for 7 years now and I can’t fix it. I tried it all. I have been pushing this decision for a long time but it’s time. Thank you!

You’re welcome! Mourn the loss but leave the space empty for a while. Let its replacement come find you!

I truly need to let go sooner than I do. I’m always the one watering sticks and hoping for a comeback 😂. Especially with alocasias!

Either it dies truly and fully or my mother comes over and says “I think it’s time to let that one go”

When I can successfully bring a plant back from the brink it, it’s really rewarding. But if that plant continues to betray me after doing all the right things, it’s three strikes and you’re out.

Oooh that’s a good rule. I might have to take that one in. What’s the definition of a successful resurrection for you?

I used to define it just by new growth, but found sometimes a plant will make a little rally then go back to their old ways. That’s usually when I’ll give them another shot because I suspect I did some of the right things but didn’t solve the whole problem. For me to feel confident it’s a true comeback, it needs to reach “thrive” and not just “alive” - I want to see signs of new growth in 4-6 weeks. I’ll give some plants more time when they are starting from an extremely sad state. Then it needs to sustain healthy growth (leaves aren’t misshapen or discolored) and vibrant foliage for 4-6 months before I’ll take it off my watch list. How about you? Do you have a favorite comeback story?
