I don’t know anything about calatheas other than they are said to be super dramatic and easy to kill. I got this one a couple weeks ago and I can’t tell how it’s doing. There are some leaves on the bottom layer that have slowly been turning yellow then dried and shriveled, but 1 new leaf has fully opened and another leaf is starting to open since I got it. I rotate it every so often because I have a grow light off to the side that it seems to turn the tops of its leaves away from. I tried to give it a watering globe full of distilled water because I heard they’re incredibly sensitive to chemicals in tap water. What do you all think? Do I need to move it somewhere darker (I.e. farther away from the grow light)?

I’ve got 2 that are doing delightfully well, and I’d personally say yours looks quite happy as well! The leaves don’t look burnt or dry at all so I wouldn’t worry about it being too close to the grow light. I’ve found the only thing they ever REALLY get dramatic about is tap water, plus they make for excellent spider mite magnets so make sure to check them regularly 🙏

Looks great - Just get rid of the dead leaves and continue to watch it grow! Everyone says how difficult these plants are but mine is the most low maintenance plant that I have, I’ve always used tap water for it and it doesn’t mind sunlight🤷🏻‍♀️
