I was gifted a Dahlia that’s in bloom. I have not been successful supporting plants that live outside. It’s a really beautiful plant, and I’d like to give it a fighting chance. What do I need to know?

    First question I have for you: Is it potted? Do you intend to keep it in a pot outside? Or is it being planted in the ground?

      It is currently potted. My husband was going to build me a planter box for it.

    Dahlias are grand, just ensure they have a big enough pot as their roots like to grow deep.... and ensure they are outside somewhere that they will get at minimum 6 hours of sunshine... avoid a windy spot if possible as their flower heads get quite big and can be snapped/blown off

    For potted plants (even larger containers) make sure to use potting mix instead of regular dirt. This is important with flowering plants especially because their roots aren't able to go deeper to get the nutrients needed to bloom. Potting mix is made to be vitamin dense to help with this
