I have just repotted a small Phalaenopsis orchid. The orchid potting mix contains time release fertilizer (.08% N, .24% P2O5, .08%potash). I’m wondering when I should start following the regular fertilizing schedule as suggested by Planta)

Hi there, are you referring to the little yellow/ blue/ green fertiliser balls? Those last between 3 to 6 months so I normally start fertilising at the 6 month mark.
1 LikeNo. I can’t see anything in the mix that looks like that. Everything is brown and looks like plain potting mix. I didn’t realize it had fertilizer in it until I got home. But I guess starting to fertilize at 3 months would be OK. Thanx much. Kathleen

I fertilize mine weekly. I use the MiracleGro orchid plant food mist. I have two orchids. One in water and one in my Monstera pot just kind of hanging out. It’s not directly in the soil. Every time I water my monstera, which is weekly, it gets watered too, and gets misted with fertilizer once a week. It’s doing quite well—no flower yet though. The one in water is being rehabilitated—it was in the same pot, but it’s also a different orchid than the other one. I’ve had it since 2020, and it’s been on and off trying to live and die. Every time it goes downhill on health, I put it in water to regrow the roots. Just noticed a new root growing today, so it’s coming back to life again.
