Found some tiny worms crawling on my monstera. I’m currently water propagating it and the worms were along the stem under the water. Anyone know what’s up with that?

They’re most likely detritus worms or mosquito/fungus gnat larvae. • Detritus worms feed on decaying organic matter in stagnant water (like old plant material or algae). • Fungus gnat larvae can end up in the water if gnats laid eggs on the stem before propagation. ⚠️ Why it happens: When water propagation containers aren’t changed frequently, the combination of warmth + decaying matter + still water creates the perfect environment for tiny larvae or worms to appear. 🧼 How to fix it: 1. Discard the water immediately. 2. Rinse the roots and stems thoroughly under lukewarm running water. 3. Clean the jar or container with dish soap or a little hydrogen peroxide. 4. Refill with fresh, clean water (preferably filtered or distilled). 5. Change the water every 2–3 days moving forward to keep it oxygenated and clear. 🌿 Optional: If the infestation was heavy, you can soak the cutting in a diluted hydrogen peroxide rinse (1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water) for 10–15 minutes to sanitize it before putting it back in clean water.
2개 좋아요I just changed the water and rinsed everything off. I’ll keep an eye on it now. I did have some gnats in the house a couple weeks after putting the plant in water. But lots of sources online say you don’t need to change the water. I’ll be changing mine from now on.
