Can someone tell me what kind of plant this is and how do I care for it? I’ve had it roughly 2-3 weeks and it’s already lost a lot of its leaves. I just moved it closer to the window today to see if more sunlight will help. Thank you in advance!

Looks like a Croton to me. They like a bit of high humidity and don’t like to dry out TOO much. They are dramatic and will definitely let you know when they’re thirsty. Just to spring back up 5 min later. They also like PLENTY of sun so th window spot is perfect. Here’s a picture of my Croton (Diff variegation). Tons of growth and both are starting to bark up and branch! Here’s name is Firefly 😊

This a Petra Croton, they need a lot of light, keep away from drafty windows during winter. I substitute with a growlight during the winter months. The more light you can provide, the more colorful the leafs will be. Avoid overwatering during the winter months as they can be prone to root rot. Make sure the soil doesn't stay waterlogged.

Honestly, the biggest issue I found with crotons is that they absolutely hate getting too cold. I had mine in my bedroom for a while and I like it cool when I sleep. This caused it to start dropping leaves until I got wise and moved it. So depending on where you’re located, being next to a window might not be great this time of the year. A little less light won’t necessarily hurt, it just won’t be as variegated. From what I’ve heard, the Petra cultivar is pretty tolerant to drought and lower humidity, so those shouldn’t be issues either.

They need LOTS of light. Also to help prevent root rot on any plants that need frequent watering, add a layer of higher drainage (perlite, gravel, orchid bark, cactus soil, etc) to the bottom of the pot (1/7th to 1/10th the total depth of the pot should do). It helps prevent water from pooling and becoming stagnant where the roots are most vulnerable
