I bought this plant to separate into two pots for me and a friend but it’s really root bound… any suggestions?

Kinda lol. Looking at the pic, the roots look really fine, making it difficult to untangle without stressing the plant too much. You could try soaking the entire root ball in water for 5 - 10 minutes to soften the soil and the roots. Then spray with with water from a garden hose or kitchen sink to rinse away the dirt and untangle the roots. Pretty much the same way you would do root division from any other plant. The bread knife down the middle would give you a really awkward repot with the half circle root ball lol. 😂
1 j'aimeThese are threadlike roots. You can’t untangle without doing a lot of damage. The cleaver down the middle method is best. Disinfect the knife. Cut it in two. Rinse the roots with hydrogen peroxide. Repot. You will lose a few leaves and stems. This plant will recover. Add rooting hormone to the cut sections when repotting. To get more roots faster. Good luck🍀🪴
3 J'aimeI agree with the bread knife method. I’ve killed these things pretty easily trying to untangle roots. It shocks the plant. They grow super fast though and you have to prune them back to keep them full so losing a few stems when dividing it with a knife is no big deal.
1 j'aimeIt’s a beautiful little plant BTW!
