I am by no means an entomologist, so I’d love if anyone could tell me if this is a cricket or grasshopper. Not distressed to see them in my garden. Would just love to confirm what’s been visiting my flowers this week, and if any of the species in my garden might be attracting them. I currently have two lantana, calla lilies, and asiatic lilies in this bed, then two raised beds of asiatic and oriental lilies. TIA! 😊

Was thinking the same. Are crickets always black?

Thank you! 😊 I don’t need to shoo them out of the garden, do I? This is the second one I’ve seen this week so far, and I haven’t seen either of them nibbling on any foliage or burrowing to try munching on any roots or anything. I don’t wanna scare them off if I don’t have to. I like to think they’re unintentionally pollinating a little as they sit in the shade on the leaves of my lantanas.

Grasshoppers are destructive to foliage, esp new leaves. Crickets generally are not a problem
