Sort of a weird question but I honestly can't figure this out. If I am laying down my iPhone in front of me and this is what my Compass shows, what facing is the window in front of me and what facing is the window behind me? Every time I hear about putting a plant in a certain facing window I get befuddled. Lol Thanks in advance.

Yeah lol it’s hard to figure it out sometimes, I get it. So if there is a window directly in front of you, with your compass the way it is, your window would be southwest but leaning more towards south. South to southwest facing windows are bright direct light/full sun/all day sun. You will want to either pull some plants back that don’t need direct sun, or plop some direct sun beauties right in the window that love the heat of the day and soaking up rays. Then, if there is a window behind you it’s a northeast facing window but leaning more north. This means that most of the plants that would be happy here are full shade/partial shade, that don’t like a lot of direct or indirect light all day, mostly partial sunlight plants that grow under the thick canopy cover in nature (they call these crawler plants). Hope this helps! Also, this is all info for if you are strictly using window sunlight for your plants. It’s a whole different ballgame if you want to introduce grow lights in your house lol.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I have all my succulents in my south window so I was doing something right even without the compass. Lol. I have absolutely no east facing windows and only one west facing. A few north. And I have just started using grow lights.

Of course! Haha yeah, that’s good, they and cacti definitely love the sun lol. Oh awesome! Those are good facing windows for growing. Grow lights are good too, helps during the winter months or for places you want plants that don’t have the right light

The only way I learned this is from the sun. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west! If you’re facing east, then your right hand is facing south and your left is facing north! I don’t think I’d be able to figure out the compass either 😔 hope this helps a little!! I never knew my NSEW until I got plants 🤣 drives my dad crazy bc he tried to teach me numerous times

Agree with Alyssa! Compasses always face north, which means that north is kinda behind you and to the right a bit!
