i got this plant like 2 weeks ago, the soil was dry so i watered it like a week ago (soil is still soaking wet) and it’s starting to shrivel up at the base, could it be that i should’ve waited to water it? or is it not getting enough sun? it doesn’t have the best spot in my room for light so i moved it closer for now, if anyone could let me know it would be extremely appreciated!!!!

Take it out now and put it in dry soil no added water for 2wks 3wks to be sure almost immediately before the root rots and it’s hard to save. Like today tbh.💯🙏🏽

How did you water it with a succulent type plant like that I would suggest bottom watering so that the leaves don’t rot hope it survives! ☺️

weirdly enough i did bottom water, it was my first time though so maybe i did it wrong? i let it soak for 15-20 mins is that too long? i made sure there was no water left when the top of the soil was wet

Yeah, it looks like it was watered from the top. Could’ve also been the wrong water (make sure it gets the proper water - distill, 24 hour set tap water, filtered water, rain water). This mistake could’ve been done where you had bought it as well, it may have not been your mistake.

That’s strange maybe it’s to do with your home environment mine is very humid and sometimes soil stays damp for too long so I go a bit longer when watering my plants

You could try adding perlite & oricd bark into your soil for better drainage/more airflow in the pot!

Ah, the notorious string of pearls. Needs very bright light, and to dry out between waterings. Good luck, soldier. 🫡

I had a similar situation with my much smaller string of pearls. I moved it closer to light and didn’t water until soil completely dried out. I also removed the brown pearls. Its rebounded and doing great! Good luck with it! They are one of my absolute favorites!

If you watered it a week ago and the soil is still soaking wet now, I’d say the problem is with the substrate it’s in!! Is it still in the soil you bought it in or did you repot? It will need a well draining, gritty mix. You can use ready made succulent/cactus mix, or make your own mix by adding things like perlite, sand, pumice, charcoal, etc. to potting mix!

it’s definitely still in the original soil so i will be moving it over today!
