Plz pray for me I just found one of my plants literally ate tf up with mealy bugs š any tips on how to treat the entire collection. I threw this one away.

NataOhhh thatās extremely annoying. Many years ago I had to deal with these shuckers. 1) 70% isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball and remove each of the white clusters carefully. It kind of melts, itās nasty. 2) hose with water or put it in the shower 3) spray the hell out with insecticidal soap. Better to do this at night so it doesnāt burn the leaves. These three steps, you repeat them every 7 days, or before if the white clustered bastards appear earlier. While the plant is in isolation, of course. The mealy bug spreads like weed. It took me more than two months to get rid of them. There were many plants involved. It was annoying. Good luck!!

Iām devastated they are all over my giant Hoya compacta and Iām just like how did I not noticeš Iāve got a massive collection and new imports from Ecuador and Iām so stressed

KobygawaThatās what started it. Iāve seen that the Hoya compactas are notorious for attracting mealies cause they love all the little hidden nooks and crannies. You pretty much have to drown that sucker in a tub of water and dawn and then search every nook and cranny with a cotton swab with alcohol on it. Followed by all the other things everybody has recommended on this post. I am so sorry that is super stressful.

PlantingsherryGASP! No! š«¢ I havenāt had to deal with any pests yet, but I watch videos on YouTube by @paigetailyn. You have three options that I know of: Use a system like the one mentioned in the post above, but I would use sexy plant juice. Buy something that you put in the soil that will kill all the bugs when it gets absorbed up into the plant. Sorry, I donāt know the name, but you can Google it. Or, what Iām going to do when I bring home some pests, and what paige recommends; buy some predatory bugs online. They will eat all of your pests on all of your plant plants and you donāt have to do anything. They are a slow, Release sachet. Easy and natural.

I use systemic houseplant granules, sexy plant juice spray, 70% rubbing alcohol in a bottle, and super insecticidal soap š I have no idea how they even got in

I was just nervous to order any because the space Iām in is currently rented and they have an entire clause in their lease about not being allowed to āownā any invertebrates. Iām not sure if theyād really even count but i still worry

PhilWow this will be a major process you have almost 100 plants I see. I deal mealy bugs on a regular basis because they love succulents. I have come up with a routine that has been working for me. The alcohol swab treatment. Then I spray the plant with Systemica or Insecticidal Soap every 4 to 5 days. I follow this routine for 3 weeks to cover their life cycle. And you should start a Bonide Systemic treatment asap. Especially for your Hoya that will be impossible to treat completely otherwise. Unfortunately the Bonide takes 1 to 2 weeks to start working. And follow the directions. Iāve heard of people just sprinkling some in the top of the soil. That will not work. Bonide for all your plants will be expensive. If you use Amazon, buy the larger 4 pound size. It is much cheaper. It says for outside plants but the formula is the same. I usually do a Bonide treatment once a year otherwise I use the treatment I described above. One more thought, the Systemica spray also claims to be absorbed by the plant. Guess thatās why the name. Hope this helps. Long rant but canāt sleep and Iām bored.

Thank you for the tips! Iām planning to give the large compacta and some of the more difficult plants a dunk in water w/alcohol and peppermint soap. My plan is to take them outside to dry, and separate them by ādefinitely have mealiesā and āexposedā. Then Iāll go through with alcohol and spot kill any survivors, and spray down with insecticide. I applied bonide to all the plants with soil, Iām just stuck on what to do with my imports and tissue cultures since they are all in sphagnum moss/perlite mixtures

Just donāt let up on spraying and inspecting every few days. The three weeks seems to cover the entire life cycle. From past experience, you may not see any and think all is good, then a month later you find mealies.

KellyUgh! They are the worst! Im in an on off battle with them too and thats just it everything looks fine next thing you know they have taken over your plant! Wishing you luck in this battle!
