Eek. What is this stuff in the soil of my Njoy Pothos?? I was about to water it when I noticed this unhealthy leaf, so I pulled it out of its pot to make sure everything looked good, and this is what I found. Some kind of mold I presume. Hoping it’s harmless, but regardless, what is the best course of action? I’ve had this plant for about a month.

I have no experience but IMO the obvious answer is to remove as much soil as possible, soak the roots in water/peroxide to kill anything living and then replant with fresh soil.

Thanks for the advice! I love knowing what and why things are, so hopefully someone knows what kind of organism this is too!

It looks to me like saprophytic fungi, which is a common non harmful (and even kind of beneficial) fungus. Ya got a good bit of it in that pot. If left alone, you might even get some mushrooms fruiting lol. I personally hate this stuff, it gives me the heebie jeebies. It’s a sign that your soil is pretty rich in organic matter and is holding a lot of moisture consistently. If you clear it off and repot, I’d aim for soil with some more drainage and keep an eye on overwatering. I also would wear a mask when clearing the old soil out and dispose of it immediately - it may be a common fungus, but I still don’t want to be inhaling spores or have them floating around my house.

Thank you so much! I will definitely repot outdoors and dispose of the old soil right away. Good advice.
